CBC Baseball sets a new season win mark with weekend split of Grace University. Central Baptist College's previous season high win total was 23 games. The Mustangs (24-14) eclipsed that mark while splitting the weekend 2-2 with Grace University.
Friday Game 1
The CBC Mustangs held tough until late against Grace University on Friday, but Grace University scored six runs late for a 8-2 victory at Victory Field at Conway Christian in the first of two.
The Mustangs had the lead early, but couldn't hold off Grace University. CBC led until the seventh inning, but Grace University took the lead back when Victor Serna drew a bases loaded walk.
Agustin Lopez got the win for Grace University. He allowed two runs over seven innings. He struck out 11, walked two and surrendered eight hits.
Lane Chapman took the loss for CBC Mustangs. He walked one, struck out none, and allowed three runs.
CBC Mustangs survived Grace University's surge and put up one run of its own in the first. The Mustangs scored on an error.
Grace University never surrendered the lead after the seventh inning, scoring six runs on a sacrifice fly by Andres Enriquez and three singles.
Friday Game 2
Sam Buczek went 1-3 and hit a home run as the CBC Mustangs took home a 7-3 victory over Grace University in seven innings at Victory Field Conway, AR on Friday..
Jacinto Garcia took the loss for Grace University. He allowed seven runs in five innings, walked four and struck out five.
The top of the first saw Grace University take an early lead, 1-0. A single by Andres Enriquez, bringing home David Vega started the inning off.
The Mustangs didn't relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the third inning when it scored on a two-run single by Myles Hiebert.
Two runs in the top of the fifth helped Grace University close its deficit to 5-3. A sacrifice fly by Johnny Miranda gave Grace University life.
The Mustangs quickly matched Grace University's strong inning with a two-run inning of its own in the fifth. CBC scored on an RBI single by Derek and a groundout by Cody Rhoades.
Saturday Game 1
Carl Brice recorded the win for Grace University as they defeated the Mustangs 5 – 1 in the first game Saturday. He allowed one run over seven innings. He struck out three, walked three and surrendered three hits.
Kody Gill ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. He went seven innings, walked two, struck out four, and allowed five runs.
Grace University jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Grace University got a spark in the form of a Johnny Miranda single, before Andres Enriquez doubled, scoring Johnny.
Grace University never trailed after scoring two runs in the second on a groundout by David Vega and an RBI triple by Brian Eichhorn.
Grace University brought home one run in the third inning, and matched that run total in the sixth. In the third, Grace University scored on a groundout by Agustin Lopez, bringing home Johnny.
Saturday Game 2
Grace University was never able to get over the hump and overcome its troubles in the final game Saturday, as Grace fell 5-4 at Victory Field after falling behind by three runs in the sixth inning.
Grace University scored two runs in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Max Martin and an RBI single by Carlos Ochoa.
Josh Buczek was hot from the plate for CBC Mustangs. Josh went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. He singled in the third and sixth innings.
Ross Westbrook got it done on the mound on the way to a win. He allowed four runs over 6 2/3 innings. Ross struck out three, walked three and gave up seven hits.
Matt Naval took the loss for Grace University. He lasted just two innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
CBC Mustangs closer Ezra Wiley put away the final out to record the save.
