The CBC Mustangs and Henderson State University each put runners in scoring position on Monday, but CBC capitalized on more RBI opportunities, pulling out a 9-6 win at Arkadelphia, AR.
Henderson State University got 14 hits compared with just 13 for CBC Mustangs, but Henderson State University stranded 10 on base.
Seth McLemore racked up four RBIs on four hits for the Mustangs. He homered in the fifth inning and singled in the second, third, and sixth innings.
Kody Gill recorded the win for CBC. He allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered seven hits.
Luke Tebbetts took the loss for Henderson State University. He allowed seven runs in 4 2/3 innings, walked four and struck out two.
CBC closer Gunner Allen put away the final nine outs to record the save.
CBC scored one run in each of the third, sixth and seventh. In the third, the Mustangs scored on an RBI single by McLemore, bringing home Aaron Boucher.
A one-run third inning helped bring the Reddies within two. An RBI single by Jordan Taylor triggered Henderson State University's comeback. Gill ended the inning by getting Lance Fields to fly out.
The Mustangs added four more runs in the top of the fifth. A single by Sam Buczek ignited the offense,, scoring Aaron Boucher. That was followed up by McLemore's two-run blast, plating Buczek.
After pushing across three runs in the bottom of the sixth, Henderson State University faced just a 8-4 deficit. A two-run home run by Fields and an RBI single by AJ Kruzel set off Henderson State University rally. The Reddies threat came to an end when Dillon Cates finally got Will Powell to hit a line drive out to first base.
One run in the bottom of the seventh helped Henderson State University close its deficit to 9-5. Finally, Allen got Tadarious Hawkins to fly out to end the threat.
Henderson State University scored one run in the bottom of the ninth to cut its deficit to three. An RBI single by Conner Brackhahn gave Henderson State University life. Finally, Allen got Hawkins to strike out to end the game.
