The CBC Mustangs jumped out to an early lead on Crowley's Ridge College and captured a 12-0 victory on Tuesday at Victory Field in game one of a non-conference doubleheader.
Five runs in the first three innings allowed CBC to put the game away early.
A two-run home run by Santez Richardson during the first inning and a two-run single by Aaron Boucher in the second inning supplied the early offense for the Mustangs. CBC hit three home runs in the win. Additional home runs for the Mustangs came when Ryan Johnson homered in the third inning and Scott Gracey homered in the sixth inning. Gracey racked up three RBIs on four hits for the Mustangs. He doubled in the third inning, singled in the second and fifth innings, and homered in the sixth inning.
Ryan Smith got the win pitching six shutout innings. He struck out four, walked two and surrendered two hits.
The Mustangs built upon its lead with four runs in the fifth. Josh Buczek kicked things off with a double, plating Nick Hefley, Gracey and Deonta Howard. That was followed up by Colin Fluesmeier's double, plating Josh Buczek.
In the second game, CBC used a strong pitching performance from freshman Brian Moreno to defeat Crowley's Ridge 3-1.
The Mustangs scored one run by Josh Buczek in the first inning on an error by the Pioneer infield. They never relinquished the lead. Nick Hefley went 1-1 singling in the sixth inning. CBC matched its one-run second inning with one more in the sixth. In the second, the Mustangs scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Buczek, plating Hefley.
Brian Moreno kept contact to a minimum, striking out 10 Crowley's Ridge College batters. Moreno allowed one earned run on four hits and no walks over seven innings.
Next up for CBC is Waldorf College as they visit Conway for a conference series this weekend. Games have an approximate start time on Friday at 3pm with a second game to follow. Saturday start is at noon, followed by a final game.
