Conway, AR – The Central Baptist College Mustangs hosted the College of the Ozarks (CoO) Bobcats Friday and Saturday in their season opening series. The Mustangs swept the series 3-0. CBC continued its winning ways after a 31 win campaign in 2015 that ended in a trip to the NCCAA World Series.
On Friday, the Mustangs used a walk-off single by Austin Kuchinski in the 10th inning to win 4-3 over the Bobcats. Jalin Lawson led got on base two times, scoring one run and producing one RBI. Cole Johnson recorded the win, pitching one shutout inning. He walked one and surrendered one hit.
In the first game on Saturday CBC jumped out early to win 10-1. Five runs in the first three innings allowed the Mustangs to put it away early.
A sacrifice fly by Jalin Lawson during the first inning and a two-run home run by Ryan Johnson with a two-run double by Monterio May in the second inning supplied the early offense. Lawson had four RBIs on one hit for the Mustangs.
College of the Ozarks couldn't get anything going as long as Aaron Kincaid was on the rubber. College of the Ozarks managed just two hits off of Kincaid, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out four during his five innings of work.
Military members, current and retired were honored between games with Mario Wright, a current CBC student, throwing out the first pitch in game two on Saturday.
In the final game, College of the Ozarks fell behind by three runs early but gave the Mustangs a scare before falling 5-3 to CBC.
L'Donta Howard went a perfect 3-3 at the plate for Mustangs. He singled in the second, fourth, and sixth innings. The Mustangs posted one run in each of the third, fourth and sixth inning. In the third, Seth McLemore had a RBI double, scoring May.Monterio May got the win for CBC allowing two runs over four innings. May struck out two, walked two and gave up two hits.
