CONWAY, AR- The Central Baptist College Mustangs defeated the Missouri Valley College (MV) Vikings 2-0, 5-3 in a doubleheader Friday at CCS Victory Field.
In the first game, Brian Moreno had another strong outing, pitching 6 1/3 strong innings to carry Mustangs to a 2-0 win. Moreno had six strikeouts, gave up four hits and two walks on his day. Ryan Smith got the save for CBC.
Jalin Lawson lead the offense, reaching base two times, scoring a run and had one RBI. Lawson homered in the third inning.
In the second game, Missouri Valley College was never able to get over the hump after falling behind by four runs by the sixth inning. The Vikings scored two runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Stafford and a groundout by Burdette but took the loss, 5-3.Nash Nichols reached base two times in the game for Mustangs. Nichols scored two runs and had one RBI. He homered in the sixth inning. Kale Fultz's eight strikeouts helped Mustangs to the victory. Fultz allowed one earned run, five hits and two walks over 6 1/3 innings.
The bottom of the first saw the Mustangs take an early lead, 1-0. A single by Austin Kuchinski brought home Jalin Lawson to start the inning. CBC never trailed after scoring one run in the third on an RBI double by Lawson. The Mustangs added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth with Ryan Johnson's double scoring Kuchinski.
CBC host the MV Vikings again in doubleheader action on Saturday.
