CONWAY, AR – The 11th ranked Freed-Hardeman (FHU) Lady Lions and the 14th ranked Lions defeated the Central Baptist College Mustangs on Saturday afternoon, 70-48, 98-86.
In the women's game, the Lady Lions jumped out to a nine point first period lead on the shooting of Taleeh Cross and Erika Zurauskaite. Cross would finish the game with 16 points.
CBC's Morgan Fimpel's shot from the paint helped the Lady Mustangs cut it to a five-point lead at the half, 30-25. Fimpel would finish with eight points and seven rebounds for the afternoon.
The third period saw both squads trading baskets with a slim advantage to FHU. The Lady Lions used the hot shooting of Kelley Crowell to pull away in the fourth period and the final margin of 22.
In men's action, Jayln McBride (21) and Mike Evans (19) combined for forty points but could not put away the 14th ranked Lions, 98-86. Isiah Harrison for the Lions had 26 points to lead all scorers. Harrison made a shot at the sixteen-minute mark of the first half to make it a ten point FHU lead. Free throws by CBC's Jalyn McBride tied the game twice before the half. The Lions would make it a 42-36 lead at halftime with a three point shot by Austin Dempsey.
A three point shot by CBC's James Brown three minutes into the second half would bring the Mustangs within 2 points at 44-42. CBC would keep it close until the five-minute mark when the Lion's Orlando Bass hit a three pointer that would take the up by 14 pts. The Mustangs could not overcome to pull out the win.
