Conway, Ark. – The Central Baptist College Mustangs began a weekend series with Bacone College on Friday at Conway Christian's Victory Field. The Mustangs were putting their undefeated season (8-0) on the line. The Mustangs won the first game 9-1 behind another strong effort by starting pitcher Brian Moreno. In the later afternoon contest the Warriors upended the Mustangs 3-2.
In the opening game, L'Donta Howard had two RBIs on one hit for the Mustangs. He homered in the sixth inning to score two runs. CBC scored three runs on two singles in the fourth. They then scored four runs in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Monterio May (1-2, 1 run, 1 RBI), a wild pitch, a groundout by Nash Nichols, and an RBI double by Ryan Johnson (2-3, 2RBIs) to seal the victory.
Bacone College (0-5) managed just three hits off of the Mustangs' pitcher, Brian Moreno, who allowed one earned run, walked three and struck out five during his six innings of work.
Diaz was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed seven runs in 4 2/3 innings, walked five and struck out two.
In the later game Friday, The Mustangs built an early lead but the Warriors came back to clip the previously undefeated CBC squad, 3-2.
Kale Fultz had a strong outing striking out six batters. Fultz allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks over six innings. He took the loss for the Mustangs.
Bacone College took the lead in the sixth inning on an RBI double by Adam Gray. Dairo Gonzalez and Gray teamed up for five hits and two RBIs. Gonzalez recorded the win for Bacone College. He tossed 1 1/3 innings of shutout ball. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered no hits.
The Mustangs have two more chances against the Warriors on Saturday beginning at 1pm to win the series.
