Conway, Ark. – The Mustangs were determined to bounce back from the first defeat of the young season and did so against the Bacone College Warriors on Saturday at Victory field, 3-0, 5-2.
In the first game, Aaron Kincaid threw a shutout to carry the Mustangs (10-1) to victory. He allowed no runs on two hits while striking out seven in seven innings of work. The game was in hand after the third inning when CBC scored three runs. The scores were results of walks and wild pitches by the Warriors pitcher Straiger.
L'Donta Howard went 1-1 and Josh Buczek went 1-2, 1 run for CBC.
In the final game of the four game weekend the Mustangs defeated Bacone 5-2 to take the series 3 games out of four. Monterio May got the win for CBC. He threw four innings of shutout ball. May struck out none, walked four and gave up just two hits.
Nash Nichols drove in three runs on the day homering in the second inning. Austin Kuchinski had an RBI single in the second to make it a 2-0 lead. The Mustangs added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. A passed ball scored Santez Richardson after he reached on a double to right and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Jalin Lawson scored after Nash Nichols reached base on a fielder's choice.
A two-run sixth inning helped bring Bacone College within three. An RBI single by Pedraza and an RBI single by Gonzalez sparked Bacone College's rally. Ryan Smith ended the inning by getting Gray to strike out.
The win gives the Mustangs an 11-1 record, best start in school history, as they next face Crowley's Ridge in Paragould, Ark. on Tuesday.
