Conway, Ark. – The CBC Mustangs moved their midweek game against Crowley's Ridge College to Monday to avoid the rain and it paid off as CBC won a pair, 7-6, 8-4. The 13-1 start is the best for the Mustang baseball program.
It took eight innings and an error for the victory in game one (7-6). The teams exchanged leads seven times in the game.
CBC started off the scoring with one in the first inning thanks to a couple errors that help score Josh Buczek. Crowley's tied it up in the second with a couple of hits and a score by Teague.
Crowley's Ridge College pushed across one run in both the fifth inning and the eighth. In the fifth, Crowley's Ridge College scored on an RBI single by Dakota Campbell, bringing home Ryan Rogers.
The Mustangs survived a Crowley's Ridge College's surge and put up two runs of its own in the fifth. CBC scored on an RBI single by Jalin Lawson and a fielder's choice.
The Mustangs quickly matched Crowley's Ridge College's strong inning with a two-run inning of its own in the eighth.
In the second contest, CBC used a strong third inning to put them on top and survive a scare in the seventh to win, 8-4. Calvin Hodges shut down Crowley's Ridge College while he was on the mound. Hodges held Crowley's Ridge hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out six. Dillion Cates opened and pitched four innings with five strikeouts, one earned run, three hits and one walk.
The top of the third saw Crowley's Ridge take an early lead, 1-0. They got things going when Dakota Campbell doubled. A groundout by Troy Allen then moved Campbell from second to third. Jerad Yates singled, scoring Campbell.
CBC piled on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. A sacrifice fly scored Josh Hibbard for the inning's first run.
After pushing across three runs in the top of the seventh, Crowley's Ridge College faced just an 8-4 deficit. An RBI single by Yates, a walk by Ryan Rogers, and a bases loaded walk by Wes Teague gave Crowley's Ridge College life. Cole Johnson closed it out for the Mustangs.
