Belleville, IL. – The CBC basketball teams travel to Lindenwood-Belleville Saturday as their final stops in the inaugural season of the American Midwest Conference. The Women were defeated 78-60 while the Men won their game 100-83.
Rachel Eitherington started the Lady Mustangs off with a three-point basket followed by a shot made by Denesha Dillard to make it 5-0 in the first forty seconds of the contest. Rilea Ruff (LB) would answer with a couple of three-pointers of her own to take the lead that Lindenwood would never relinquish.
Audrey Moran would finish with 17 points for CBC. Also scoring in double figures was Denesha Dillard (16) and Morgan Fimpel (12). The Lady Mustangs finish 9-21 (5-19 AMC). Rachel Eitherington would lead the team with a points per game average at 9.73. Aaliyah Block led the team in rebounds (182/6.28 avg), steals (41/1.41 avg) and blocks (24/.83 avg).
The three-point shot has been a factor for the Mustangs all season and this game was no different as CBC opened up the first half with shots from team leader Fred Albright and Jayln McBride. CBC shot 46% from the 3-pt line for the game.The Mustangs enjoyed their largest lead of the first half on a shot from James Brown in the paint. CBC led 36-17, taking a 50-32 lead into halftime.
The second half was all Mustang as Lindenwood-Belleville never got closer than ten points.Jalyn McBride lead the Mustangs with 30 pts, 8 assists and 4 steals. Team leader Mike Evans pulled down 10 boards along with 10 pts. Evans is #16 in all of NAIA DIV 1 in offensive rebounds per game (3.21) TeShawn Sims had a big day scoring 26.
The Mustangs have made the NCCAA D1 Men's Basketball tournament and will be heading to the campus of Colorado Christian University for a first round game, Thursday, March 10th. Currently their opponent has not been announced.
