Monticello, Ark.- A tight game was decided in the eighth inning as the Central Baptist College Mustangs fell to the University Of Arkansas Monticello Boll Weevils 6-3 on Tuesday at Weevil field in non-conference action.
Jalin Lawson racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Mustangs (29-7). He homered in the first inning.
Dylan Crossley pitched lights out for Mustangs. UAM (20-7) managed just one hit off of the Mustangs' pitcher, who allowed one earned run, walked four and struck out five during his four innings of work.
Ben Aldridge got the win. He tossed 3 2/3 innings of shutout ball. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered no hits.
Gunner Allen was charged with the loss. He walked one, struck out none, and allowed three runs.
The Mustangs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. CBC caught fire after Seth McLemore singled, then Lawson homered, plating McLemore.
UAM got one-run boosts in each of the second, third and seventh. In the second, the Boll Weevils scored on a groundout by Kaleb Reeves, scoring Nick Cerda.
UAM didn't relinquish the lead after scoring three runs in the eighth inning when it scored on a sacrifice fly by Mitchell Dornblunt and a two-run single by Evan Comeau.
