Parkville, Mo. - Brian Moreno pitched a no-hitter for the Central Baptist College Mustangs on Friday as CBC won a weekend conference series over the Park Pirates.
The Mustangs won the Friday doubleheader 13-1, 10-2 and dropped the Saturday contest 7-6 in twelve innings on a walk-off home run.
In Friday's first game, no Park University batter was able to locate Moreno's pitches during the game. Moreno threw a no-hitter, striking out five batters and walking three while recording his momentous feat. He got Garcia to fly out for the final out of the game.
CBC beat Park thanks to 14 hits, including three extra base hits. The Mustangs scored six runs in the third on an RBI single by Deonta Howard, a two-run single by Austin Kuchinski, an RBI single by Nash Nichols, and a two-run single by Santez Richardson. Kuchinski racked up four RBIs on two hits for CBC.
The Mustangs built upon its lead with four runs in the fourth. A bases loaded walk scored Howard to get the Mustangs on the board in the inning. That was followed up by Ryan Johnson's triple, bringing home Monterio May, Scott Gracey and Jalin Lawson.
Central Baptist tacked on another three runs in the sixth. Kuchinski kicked things off with a single, scoring Lawson. That was followed up by L'Donta Howard's single, bringing home Gracey and Nichols.
In the second game, Jalin Lawson added to his NAIA leading home run mark as the Mustangs won 10-2. Lawson hit two on the day. CBC had 17 hits, including nine extra base hits. The Mustangs scored four runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Scott Gracey, an RBI single by Seth McLemore, and a two-run single by Austin Kuchinski.
Aaron Kincaid got the win for the Mustangs. Kincaid pitched eight innings and allowed two earned runs, five hits and two walks while striking out five.
In the bottom of the first, Park University grabbed the early lead, 2-0. The Pirates' rally started when Torres singled. Park then tacked on more runs when Whitney scored on an RBI single by Torres.
The game's last lead went to the Mustangs thanks to a fifth inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on a solo home run by Lawson and a sacrifice fly by McLemore.
CBC scored one run in the seventh inning, and then followed it up with one more in the eighth. In the seventh, the Mustangs scored on an RBI double by Josh Buczek, bringing home Santez Richardson.
A twelfth-inning Park Pirate solo homer spelled defeat for CBC (34-12) in the final game of the series on Saturday. Park won 7-6.
Seth McLemore racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Mustangs. He homered in the first inning and singled in the twelfth inning.
In the top of the first, the Mustangs grabbed the early lead, 3-0. After Monterio May singled, CBC kept the pressure on the Pirate pitching, as McLemore homered, bringing home May. The Mustangs then tacked on more runs when Lawson scored on a groundout by Nash Nichols.
Park University scored one run of its own in the second. They scored on an RBI single by Doherty.
Park University got two-run rallies in the third inning and the eighth. In the third, Park scored on an error, scoring Garcia.
The Mustangs brought home one run in the eighth inning, and matched that run total in the ninth. In the eighth, they scored on a sacrifice fly by McLemore, bringing home Deonta Howard.
After a quick strike from the Mustangs, Park University responded with two runs in the eighth. This lead to two scoreless innings until the solo shot.
