Conway, Ark. – The (RV)Central Baptist College Mustangs (37-14) swept the William Woods Owls in American Midwest Conference play this weekend to remain in the chase for one of the top three spots. The Mustangs won on Friday 14-3 and 7-6, 4-1 on Saturday.
On Friday, the game was back-and-forth heading into the third, with five lead changes. In the second inning the Mustangs scored on an RBI single by Santez Richardson and a two-run single by Deonta Howard.
CBC added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth. A double by Seth McLemore ignited the offense, scoring Howard. That was followed up by Kuchinski's three-run blast, plating McLemore and Jalin Lawson.
The Mustangs scored five runs in the sixth on a groundout by Nash Nichols, an RBI single by Ryan Johnson, and a three-run double by Josh Buczek. Austin Kuchinski racked up three RBIs on two hits for CBC. He homered in the fourth inning and singled in the sixth inning.
Brian Moreno got the win for the Mustangs. He allowed three runs over seven innings. Moreno struck out 10, walked one and gave up seven hits.
In Saturday's opening game, sponsored by Woodmen Life, an RBI single by L'Donta Howard scoring Josh Buczek gave CBC the lead in the sixth inning. Josh Buczek racked up five RBIs on two hits for Mustangs. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the sixth inning.
Dylan Crossley put together a nice outing. William Woods University managed just one hit off of Crossley, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out four during his 3 1/3 innings of work.
The Owls took an early lead in the first, 3-0. The Mustangs scored three runs of its own in the second. The Mustangs scored on an RBI single by Santez Richardson and a two-run single by Josh Buczek.
The game was never in doubt after the sixth, as the Mustangs scored four runs on a three-run double by Josh Buczek and the RBI single by Howard.
As the Diamond Darlins, a student lead support group, played games with little leaguers between games, the teams took a break from the sun and heat, readying themselves for the final game.
Deonata Howard went 2-4, sparking the Mustangs win. He singled in the first and third innings.
Kale Fultz racked up seven strikeouts in the Mustangs win. Fultz allowed no earned runs on four hits and three walks over five innings. Coach Dr. Aaron Brister then used four different pitchers, one each inning, to finish the game. Monterio May was awarded the save.
UP NEXT: The Mustangs take on Hannibal-LaGrange University at Victory Field on Friday/Saturday for their final conference series. Saturday they will be celebrating Senior Day at the ballpark. Friday's game begins at 6:00 pm with Saturday's doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
