Henderson, Tenn. - Central Baptist College, the #3 seed in the American Midwest Conference Tournament slipped past Williams Baptist College, the 6th seed, in late night action 5-4.
CBC got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning when Nash Nichols (SO/Conway, AR) doubled then moved to third on a groundout by Ryan Johnson (SR/Sherwood, AR). A passed ball with Santez Richardson (JR/Donalsonville, GA) up to bat scored Nichols for the 1-0 lead.
Williams Baptist put up three runs in the top of the fourth, started by a triple from Michael Ludwig and a single by Tyler Eudy. Eagle's pitcher Braxton Rhodes then kept the Mustangs' bats quiet for two innings.
CBC came up big in the seventh as Joshua Buczek (SR/Donalsonville, GA) singled to score Nash Nichols, Ryan Johnson and Santez Richardson. Buczek then scored on a Seth McLemore (SR/Pulaski, TN) single to take the lead that they would not relinquish.
Brian Moreno (SO/La Victoria, Aragua, Venezuela) rang up 11 strikeouts in his seven innings of work for the Mustangs. Dillion Cates picked up the win pitching two innings allowing one hit and one run. Monterio May (JR/Helicon,AL) picked up the save.
The Mustangs advance to play #2 seeded Freed-Hardeman University on Thursday at 8:00pm. Williams Baptist will play the Williams Woods Owls at 2:00 pm in an elimination game.
