Henderson, Tenn. - The Central Baptist College Mustangs took one more step in its magical season defeating #1 seeded, NAIA #10 Missouri Baptist University 8-6 in American Midwest Conference Tournament action tonight. The win assures CBC no worse than second place in its first post season tournament action in this inaugural year in the league.
The bottom of the second saw Missouri Baptist University take an early lead, 1-0. The Spartan's threat began with a single by Austin Rieman. Rieman advanced and later scored on a wild pitch by Justin Southerland.
CBC scored four runs in the fourth when Nash Nichols walked, Ryan Johnson singled and Santez Richardson reached on a walk. Patrick Boyle for MBU then walked Scott Gracey to bring one run to the plate. A pitching change came up and Donnie Lovelady could not stop Seth McLemore as he singled to center for the RBIs.
The Spartans answered the Mustangs' top inning with four runs of its own in the sixth. Missouri Baptist University scored on a wild pitch, a groundout by Angel Cruz, an RBI single by Rieman, and an RBI double by Brandon Schlichtig.
