PARKVILLE, Mo.- Central Baptist College traveled to #16 Park University in search of the upset and a chance to remain in a tie for second place in the AMC standings. The Pirates held off the Mustangs 83-73.
The Mustangs will move to 4-3, 2-2 in the American Midwest Conference.
Central Baptist would begin the game "cold" falling behind 13-0 before getting on the board on a Jaylin McBride basket. Park would lead by as many as 18 in the first half just to see CBC chip it away by the break, 44-36. McBride would have 15 of his team leading 18 points in the first half.
A James Wanjara (Park) foul on Jordan Ford (FR/Dallas, Texas) followed by the made free throws would cut the Pirate lead to five midways through the second half, 56-51. Missed opportunities along with strong defensive rebounds helped Park regain a double digit lead until two minutes to play.
A steal by Marcelious Green (JR/Houston, TX) and a basket by Nick Jones (FR/Little Rock, AR) would give CBC life and put them within eight at 74-66. Becoming a possession game with under a minute to play, the Pirates hit free throws to produce the final margin.
Mike Evans (SR/North Little Rock, AR) would have another double-double adding 15 points with 11 rebounds. Nick Jones scored 14 to record his second game of the season in double figures. Green and Fred Albright (SR/Little Rock, AR) would each have nine rebounds on the night.
NEXT UP: The Mustangs travel to Delta State University on December 3rd for a non-conference matchup at 4pm.
