CLEVELAND, Ms. – The Central Baptist Mustangs were looking for a big win against #23 ranked NCAA Division 2 Delta State this afternoon. The Statesmen had other plans as they defeat CBC 77-66.
Two turnovers by CBC led to a 6-0 start for Delta State before Nick Jones (FR/Little Rock, AR)' layup tied the game at 15-15 with 12:51 left in the first half. After a couple of steals by DSU's Jaden Weldon, the Statesmen managed to take a ten-point lead before a Mike Evan's free throw would make it 29-20 and back in single digits. Brett Warner's jumper for Delta State would make it 36-22 Statesmen at the half.
Jayln McBride (SR/Jonesboro, AR) would have 8 of his 15 total points in the first half to lead the Mustangs. McBride would open the second period with a three pointer to make it 36-25. The Mustangs would cut it to a seven point DSU lead on a layup by Marcelious Green (JR/Houston, TX) with ten minutes to play. Delta State kept CBC away in the final minutes for the final margin.
Stephen Ramsey (JR/Chicago,Illinois) would lead the Mustangs with 16 points. Fred Albright (SR/Little Rock, AR) and LaDarius Reed (SR/ Shreveport, LA) would add seven apiece. Mike Evans (SR/North Little Rock, AR) would add to his team leading rebounds by grabbing seven.
