ST. LOUIS, MO – Central Baptist took a big step in the American Midwest Conference race defeating Missouri Baptist 82-78 on Saturday evening.
The win gives CBC a 4-2 record in the conference with a big opportunity after the Christmas Break. The Mustangs will host NAIA #24 Freed-Hardeman who currently is 4-0 in AMC play and tied with Columbia for the top spot.
The Mustangs (7-3, 4-2 AMC) are currently ranked #11 in the NCCAA as dual affiliated members along with the NAIA.
Andy Ettiene (JR/Jersery City, NJ) had 14 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the night. This was the third game in row for Ettiene to score in double figures. Jaylin McBride led all scorers with 20, he is averaging over 15 points per contest. Fred Albright (SR/Little Rock, AR) finished with 12 and five assists. Mike Evans (SR/North Little Rock, AR) had nine with five rebounds.
A LaDarius Reed (SR/ Shreveport, LA) (SR/Â Shreveport, LA) basket gave CBC its first lead in the opening half at 17-16. MBU's Luke Call would tie it up at 36 all with a little over four minutes to play. The Mustangs would again take the lead before Spartan baskets by Call and Johnny Benson would give MBU a 48-45 lead at the half.
Opening baskets by Marcelious Green (JR/Houston, TX) and Jayln McBride (SR/Jonesboro, AR) would give Central Baptist back the lead to start the second half, 49-48. Two quick lead changes and a basket by Ettiene would give the Mustangs the lead for good. MBU's Call would hit a late three to cut it to two points but the Mustangs would hit free throws in the final seconds to preserve the win.
NEXT UP: After the Christmas break, the Mustangs will play D2 Southern Arkansas on December 29th in Magnolia, Ark. On December 31st AMC action will be at AR Reddin Fieldhouse as CBC will host Freed-Hardeman in a 3 pm tip.
