CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Baptist Mustangs celebrated the end of 2016 with big wins. On Thursday, CBC traveled to Division ll Southern Arkansas and defeated the Muleriders 82-68. Saturday offered another challenge as NAIA #24 Freed-Hardeman University came to A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse for an important American Midwest Conference matchup. The Mustangs (9-3, 5-2 AMC) caged the Lions, 104-95 to take a third place spot in the AMC race. CBC has now won five games in a row dating back to early November.
CBC had five players scoring in double figures on the night. Fred Albright (SR/Little Rock, AR) led all scorers for a game high 21 and added five assists. Marcelious Green (JR/Houston, TX) had 19, Jayln McBride (SR/Jonesboro, AR) 14, Mike Evans (SR/North Little Rock, AR) 13 and Andy Ettiene (JR/Jersery City, NJ) 13.
The Mustangs shot a season high 63.2% from the field while hitting 52.9% of their 3-pt baskets. Albright was 5-8 from the 3-pt arc.
The game was tied twice in the first half before FHU's Ben Brown hit a three pointer to give the Lions a ten-point lead at 27-17. The Mustangs got to work and took the lead 34-33 with 7:03 left to play in the half on a jumper in the paint by LaDarius Reed (SR/ Shreveport, LA). CBC would never trail again in the game.
Sean Edwards (FHU) would get the Lions to one 87-86 in the second half before back to back baskets by Evans and McBride would give CBC all it needed. Free throws down the stretch would provide the final margin.
