CONWAY, Ark.- The CBC Mustangs were poised to take possession of second place in the American Midwest Conference at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse today. The Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans thought otherwise taking a 76-72 victory.
CBC's Marcelious Green (JR/Houston, TX) led all scorers with 17 points. Andy Ettiene (JR/Jersery City, NJ) and Rickey Gipson (JR/Benton, AR) each had nine points. Fred Albright (SR/Little Rock, AR) and Mike Evans (SR/North Little Rock, AR) had nine points apiece on the day. Evans also hauled in seven rebounds, Ettiene added nine.
Early on the Trojans went ahead by nine on a shot from Demetrius Early, 11-2. Fred Albright answered with a three as the Mustangs began to work and took the lead 22-20 on a three-pointer by Nick Jones (FR/Little Rock, AR). Jones would finish with six in the game. CBC would take a 41-34 lead into the half.
The Trojans turned up the intensity in the second half tying the game at 53-53 with nine minutes to play. They would take the lead at 56-55 on a three by Adan Ingle. The game would have eight ties in the second half, the last at 72. A series of misses by both squads would take the clock to :15 seconds where Early (HLGU) would make it 74-72 for the Trojans. Free throws would give the game its final score.
The loss dropped CBC (10-4, 6-3 AMC) into a three-way tie for third place in the conference. With half of the conference games still to be played, the only clear leader is #6 Columbia (Mo) at 9-0 in the AMC.
NEXT UP: The Mustangs will be on the road for their next two games. Harris-Stowe (Jan 12), Lindenwood-Belleville (Jan 14). They return home for a non-conference matchup with Baptist Bible College on Jan 16.
