Fulton, Mo. - The CBC Mustangs traveled to Fulton, Missouri with one thing on their mind, a season sweep of ranked William Woods University. The Mustangs prevailed 97-95 and are in third place in the American Midwest Conference.
CBC's Jayln McBride (SR/Jonesboro, AR) led all scorers with 35, hitting 5-8 from the 3-pt arc. The Owls had no answer for McBride. Four other Mustangs scored in double figures on the afternoon; DJ Reed (14), Marcelious Green (JR/Houston, TX) (12), LaDarius Reed (SR/ Shreveport, LA) (11) and Andy Ettiene (JR/Jersery City, NJ) (10). Green added seven rebounds and two assists while team leader Mike Evan had six rebounds and one block.
Central Baptist shot 52.5% from the field on the night and 57.1% from 3-pt land.
From the opening McBride made his presence known as he made the first basket of the game to give CBC the first lead. The Owls would take the lead 11-9 before a pair of free throws by Green would tie the game. William Woods would extend the first half lead to 12 points at 39-27. CBC's Jarma Perkins (FR/Jonesboro, AR) would hit a three before the half to cut the WWU lead to just two points, 42-40 with momentum on the side of the Mustangs.
McBride opened the second as he did the first, making the first basket and tying up the game at 42-42. With the game tied for the seventh time, a Marcelious Green free throw and a Mike Evans (SR/North Little Rock, AR) three-point play would give CBC the lead by four at 75-71. The Mustangs would lead by as much as 13 points as the Owls Jonny Woolf would make a pair of baskets to cut it back. WWU kept attacking but the defense of CBC would preserve the victory.
With the win, Central Baptist is 3-3 against NAIA teams in the Top 25 or Receiving votes. The Mustangs go to 12-6, 7-5 AMC.
NEXT UP: The Mustangs return home for a matchup with (RV) Park University on January 26 at 7:30 pm. On February 2nd they will host St Louis College of Pharmacy at 7:30pm.
Homecoming is February 4th with the court presented between the women and men's game against Missouri Baptist University. Men's tip is 3:00 pm.
