Fulton, Mo. – With the CBC Lady Mustangs facing their fourth NAIA ranked (or RV) in five games, they could not muster enough in the second half to defeat the (RV) William Woods Owls this afternoon. The Lady Mustangs won the fourth quarter but the Owls prevailed 72-57.
Emily Gardner (FR/Melbourne, AR) led the CBC charge with 18 points and one assist. Aaliyah Block (SR/Monticello, AR) scored nine as did Emily Ridgell (FR/Bryant, AR). Audrey Moran (JR/Viliona, AR) and Haley Humphreys (SO/Hot Springs, AR) added six a piece. Team leader Karlie Senko (FR/Bradford, AR) was held to three points by WWU with only nine attempts. Block would add six rebounds to lead the team.
The first quarter was a low scoring affair as Audrey Moran made a three-point basket at the end to cut the Owl lead to 11-9. Emily Gardner would hit threes twice within a minute in the second quarter to give the Lady Mustangs short lived leads. WWU would make it 30-19 before a Haley Humphreys score would cut the Owls lead to nine at the half.
The third and fourth period would see William Woods open the lead to double digits right after a free throw by CBC's Emily Ridgell would cut it to nine at 35-26. Peyton Greenlee would score 21 for the Owls with Jasmine Brown adding 13.
NEXT UP: The Lady Mustangs have a three game home stretch with Park University up first on January 26th at 5:30 pm followed by Stephens College at 1:00 pm on January 28th. Homecoming is February 4th and the court will be presented between the women and men's games. The women tip off at 1:00 pm.
