Conway, Ark. - Central Baptist continues to play giant killer as they hold off a late surge by (RV) Park University for a big American Midwest Conference win, 82-78.
The victory gives CBC an 8-5 conference mark and 13-6 overall. They are in fourth position behind undefeated Columbia, three loss Freed-Hardeman and now four loss Park.
Marcelious Green (JR/Houston, TX) and Jayln McBride (SR/Jonesboro, AR) teamed up to lead all scorers on the night. Green had 24 points and McBride had 22. McBride leads CBC in average points per game with over 14. Conway's Teshawn Sims (SR/Conway, AR) came off the bench to score seven, including a three-point shot from outer space as the first half buzzer sounded. Three Mustangs scored six each, Andy Ettiene (JR/Jersery City, NJ), Mike Evans (SR/North Little Rock, AR), and LaDarius Reed (SR/ Shreveport, LA) (SR/Â Shreveport, LA).
Central Baptist shot a season high 58% from the field and was 11/14 from the free throw line for 77.8%.
The Pirates opened with a three-pointer to take the lead before a Nick jones basket would give the Mustangs an 8-6 lead with four minutes played. This was a lead that CBC would never give up. They were up by 17 at the half, 49-32.
CBC would expand their lead to 19 before Park would turn on the jets and became very tenacious on defense. Park would make it a two-point game with .06 seconds left but free throws by Jayln McBride would spell defeat for the Pirates.
NEXT UP: On February 2nd CBC will host St Louis College of Pharmacy at 7:30pm.
Homecoming is February 4th with the court presented between the women and men's game against Missouri Baptist University. Men's tip is 3:00 pm.
