ST. LOUIS – The American Midwest Conference men's basketball regular season concluded on Saturday afternoon, and on Saturday evening, the AMC Championship Bracket was announced. Eight teams will continue their season, with seven teams hoping to earn a berth to the Buffalo Funds NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Championship at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri.
The Columbia College Cougars earned the top spot in the AMC Championship field, and with it an automatic berth into the NAIA Championship. The Cougars racked up 19 AMC wins on the season, including posting an impressive 10-1 mark on the road in the AMC. The Cougars led the AMC in scoring margin, out-scoring their opponents by an average of nearly16 points per game. Columbia also led the AMC in both field goal percentage (47.5%) and 3-point percentage (39.5%).
The Park University Pirates claimed the second seed in the Championship. The Pirates finished the year on a strong note, winning 11 of their last 13 games, with their only losses in that stretch coming to Columbia and Central Baptist College. Park led the AMC in both total steals (254) and steals per game (9.77), and they also had the best turnover margin in the AMC (+4.24 per game).
Four teams tied for the third spot in the AMC standings at 14-8. The Central Baptist College Mustangs won the tiebreaker to capture the #3 seed, having posted a 4-2 recording the six games against the other three tied teams. The Freed-Hardeman University Lions won the resulting 3-team tiebreaker with a 3-1 mark among the tied teams, and William Woods University won a head-to-head tiebreaker with the Harris-Stowe State University Hornets for the #5 seed.
Lyon College claimed the #7 seed, and Missouri Baptist University rounded out the field, earning the #8 spot in the Championship.
The Championship will run on Thursday, March 2; Saturday, March 4; and Tuesday March 7. The higher seed will host each match-up, and the bracket will not be re-seeded prior to the semifinal round. All games in the AMC Championship will be streamed live and on demand on the AMC Sports Network, with the host schools handling the production of the broadcasts. The week night games will tip-off at 7 p.m., while the Saturday tilts will begin at 3 p.m.
The All-Academic honorees and the Champions of Character Team representatives from each participating institution will be recognized prior to the start of each quarterfinal game, and the AMC All-Conference Team will be announced following the championship game on Monday, March 6.
