West Frankfort, Ill. – The Central Baptist Softball team traveled to Morthland College for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday before a pair of AMC doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Mustangs took both games from the Patriots, 4-3, 12-0.
In the 4-3 victory, Rachel Lawson (FR/Kokomo, IN) picked up the win, pitching seven innings and allowing three runs on eight hits. Lawson struck out ten and walked one. The ten strikeouts are a season game high thus far for the right-hander.
The second game was ended with the run rule after CBC scored six runs in the second and third innings to lead 12-0. Ten Lady Mustangs managed hits as the team had a total of 13 for the game. Westerman was 2-2, had 2 RBIs and scored a run. Allison Skelton (JR/Praire Grove, AR) also went 2-2 and had 1 RBI along with scoring two runs. Wade and Lawson also had two RBIs each.
Madison Skelton (JR/Praire Grove, AR) picked up the win allowing on two hits with no runs, no walks in four innings. She also struck out six.
The sixteen combined strikeouts is the highest doubleheader total of the season. The team hit .520 in the final game to set a new single game high.
The conference series with Harris-Stowe State University (FRI) and Missouri Baptist (SAT) have been postponed due to weather conditions in Missouri.
NEXT UP: They Lady Mustangs are scheduled to travel to Freed-Hardeman on the 13th for an AMC doubleheader and then to Cumberland University on the 14th for a non-conference doubleheader. Both series are scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
