McPherson, KS. - The CBC Mustangs used balanced scoring from its starters to earn a berth in the NCCAA Central Region Basketball Championship by defeating Dallas Baptist University 84-70 in Central Region semifinal action on Friday night.
DBU's JT Harris opened the game with a three-point basket and CBC's Andy Ettiene (JR/Jersery City, NJ) answered with a two-pointer as the teams traded leads in the opening half. The Mustangs Teshawn Sims (SR/Conway, AR)' three-pointer gave Central Baptist a six-point lead with six minutes to play, 29-23. Minutes later Harris gave Dallas Baptist back the lead with a three-pointer as DBU would take a three-point lead into the half, 41-44.
The second half would have three ties until 8:22 left when LaDarius Reed (SR/Â Shreveport, LA) hit a basket to give CBC the lead 60-58. The Mustangs would not trail again. A Mike Evans (SR/North Little Rock, AR) jumper made it an 11-point advantage and free throws created the final advantage.
Mon'Darrius Benson (JR/ Birmingham, AL) led the Mustangs with 13 points. Mike Evans, Jayln McBride (SR/Jonesboro, AR) and Teshawn Sims each had ten points apiece. Evans also finished with eight rebounds. Marcelious Green (JR/Houston, TX) added 12 for CBC.
Central Baptist held Dallas Baptist to 32.8% shooting while hitting 47% of their shots.
The Central Region Championship will be on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. with CBC taking on #4 seeded Southwestern Christian University.
