Conway, Ark. - On an evening better suited for ice fishing, the CBC Mustangs hosted the Lyon Scots in AMC action on Tuesday. The teams played a doubleheader in below freezing conditions with the Scots winning the opening game 4-16 and the Mustangs taking the second 4-2.
In the first game, Lyon pounded out 16 hits and veteran pitcher Tyler Tognarine held the Mustangs to one run on five hits in his six innings of work. CBC used six pitchers in the game with starter Brian Moreno (JR/La Victoria, Venezuela) picking up the loss in 2 2/3rds innings of work.
Nash Nichols (JR/Conway, AR) was the bright spot at the plate going 2-4, with one run and one RBI.
In the nightcap, solid starter Ben Madison (SO/Benton, AR) struck out 11 and allowed one hit and one run in 5 2/3rds innings to lead CBC to the win. Cole Johnson (SR/Fordyce, AR) was strong in middle relief and Aaron Kincaid (SR/Prairie Grove, AR) notched another save for the Mustangs.
Lyon scored first in the fourth on a Jordan Braswell single to right-center that scored Will Lindsey.
CBC would add two in the fifth and sixth. In the fourth, Lyon walks, a throwing error and a CBC double steal would set up the scoring with a Josh Hibbard (SR/Munford, TN) single to left field. Hits by Santez Richardson (SR/Donalsonville, GA) and Nash Nichols would lead to runs on a hit by Percy Arnold (SO/White Hall, AR).
NEXT UP: The Mustangs will host William Woods University on March 17-18 at CCS Victory Field. There will be a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1:00 pm and a single Saturday game beginning at noon.
