Conway, Ark. – The Central Baptist College Mustangs hosted the Free-Hardeman University Lions on Friday night in a crucial American Midwest Conference matchup as both squads are fighting for a spot in the AMC Tournament. CBC made the first step winning 3-1. The two continue on Saturday in a doubleheader that might determine each's fate.
CBC went up first 1-0 as Josh Hibbard (SR/Munford, TN) scored on a wild pitch after reaching on a single and was moved around by a hit from Jalin Lawson (SR/Troy, AL). The Lions answered in the top of the seventh as Collin Baber, pinch running for Collin McPherson, scored on a Wes brooks single to right field to tie it at 1-1.
In the eighth, Monterio May (SR/Helican, AL) doubled down the left field line in hopes of being the winning run. His hope was answered in the form of #30 Santez Richardson (SR/Donalsonville, GA) as his crush to deep left field left nobody guessing. The two-run blast gave the Mustangs a 3-1 edge.
Brian Moreno (JR/La Victoria, Venezuela) held Freed-Hardeman at bay for over seven innings as the Lions could only manage four hits and the one run while striking out nine. Cole Johnson (SR/Fordyce, AR) picked up the win, coming in to close it out in the latter half of the seventh and keeping the Lions at bay in the eighth and ninth.
By the Numbers:
