Conway, Ark. – The CBC Lady Mustangs kept their American Midwest Conference Tourney hopes alive on Saturday with a 1-1 split with Lyon College at City of Colleges Park. The Scots won the first game 4-2 while the Lady Mustangs took the second game, 7-3.
CBC opened the scoring in game one on a double by Raquel Westerman (SR/Galveston, TX) that plated Alyssa Estrada (FR/Houston, TX) and Rachael Jones (FR/Conway, AR) in the third inning. Lyon College came right back in the top of the fourth scoring four with help by a double from Sabrina Garcia and a Haley Huffstuttler single. The 4-2 lead would hold as neither team would score over the next three innings.
Nicole Sanders picked up the win allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out eight. CBC's Rachel Lawson (FR/Kokomo, IN) allowed four runs on seven hits in a losing effort. Lawson walked three and struck out two.
Game one (2-4) by the Numbers:
Once again it was the third inning when the Lady Mustangs got hot. CBC scored four runs on a walk by Beth Jones (JR/Hope, AR), a single by Rachael Jones and a three run homer to centerfield by Kaylee St. John (SO/Conway, AR). Lyon College had a run in the third and two in the fourth as Central Baptist led 4-3. The Lady Mustangs would add to the lead in the sixth inning with Cali Lankford (SO/Perryville, AR) two-run home run also scored Hunter Clark (JR/Sheridan, AR).
Game two (7-3) by the Numbers:
- Whitney Wade (SR/Vilonia, AR) 2-3, 1R, 1RBI
- Alyssa Estrada 2-4, 1R
- Cali Lankford 1-1, 1R, 2RBI
- 4 other Mustangs would have 1 hit each
UP NEXT: The Lady Mustangs will host Mid-America Christian (Okla.) in a non-conference doubleheader April 20th. The games are slated to begin at 2:00 pm.
