Walnut Ridge, Ark. – The Central Baptist Mustangs (28-22, 18-14 AMC) needed one game to keep the final spot in the upcoming American Midwest Championship and they got two today at Williams Baptist College. CBC won the doubleheader on Thursday 5-3, 11-1 with a final regular season contest on Friday.
In the opening game, CBC's Brian Moreno (JR/La Victoria, Venezuela) kept the Eagles in the nest allowing three runs on six hits in six innings of work. Moreno had another double digit strikeout day registering 11 on the day. Moreno picked up the win and Aaron Kincaid (SR/Prairie Grove, AR) grabbed his third save in the final inning.
WBC scored in the fifth and sixth to lead 3-0 before a five-run seventh propelled the Mustangs to victory. Ben Madison (SO/Benton, AR) started it out with a homer to left field. Hits by Josh Hibbard (SR/Munford, TN), Jalin Lawson (SR/Troy, AL) and L'Donta Howard (SO/Foreman, AR) created the rally.
Game One (5-3) by the Numbers:
It was the Pitchers day for CBC as Ben Madison also recorded double digit strikeouts with ten to hold down the Eagles. Madison fired a two-hitter and allowed one run in the game.
The Mustangs broke it open in the sixth thanks to a triple by Jalin Lawson that scored Deshun Hampton (FR/Little Rock, AR) and Josh Hibbard. A Deonta Howard (SR/Pine Bluff, AR) hit also scored Nash Nichols (JR/Conway, AR) in the inning. CBC scored six to put the game away.
Game Two (11-1) by the Numbers:
UP NEXT: The Mustangs play a single game on Saturday against Williams Baptist to end the regular season. The Game is slated for noon. CBC will await the seeding for the American Midwest Conference Championship that is set for May 3-6 in Henderson, Tenn. Hosted by Freed-Hardeman University.
