Henderson, TN- On a weekend filled with changes, weather and hitting streaks the Central Baptist College Mustangs saw their American Midwest Championship dreams come to an end after staying alive in the elimination round with a 7-3 win over Columbia College and a final defeat at the hands of Freed-Hardeman, 1-17.
Against Columbia, both squads were held scoreless until the fifth inning when CBC scored on a single by Santez Richardson (SR/Donalsonville, GA) that brought in Austin Kuchinski (SO/Powder Springs, GA). Columbia answered with two to make if 2-1 CC. The Mustangs would break it open in the sixth as L'Donta Howard (SO/Foreman, AR) scored on a Kuchinski hit and Richardson hit a three-run homer to score Nash Nichols (JR/Conway, AR) and Cody Duffey (FR/Corinth, TX).
CBC would add runs in the eighth and ninth and Columbia would score again in the eighth for the final margin. Ben Madison (SO/Benton, AR) would pick up the win in six innings of work. Madison would strike out nine, walk five and give up just two runs on three hits.
By the Numbers:
Freed-Hardeman came out swinging with five runs in the first inning, three from a home run by Aden Campbell and a two-run homer from Wes Brooks to derail the Mustangs title hopes. FHU would add three runs in the third and fourth and five in the fifth to keep CBC off balance.
