Conway, Ark. (Sept. 12, 2017) – Continuing a long road trip, the Central Baptist College women's soccer team faced cross town rival Hendrix College this evening at Warrior Field. The match was a tale of two halves, with Hendrix (2-3) scoring eight times in the first half and Sabrina Torres (SR/LaVerne, Calif.) breaking through for the Mustangs (0-6) in the second half.
"It was a tale of two halves," said head coach Chris Murphy after the contest. "Despite an insurmountable deficit, we managed to score our first goal of the season in the second half and keep a still aggressive and pressing Hendrix team goalless. Though the loss was difficult it marked a milestone for the team and the program."
Torres' goal came after Hendrix committed a hand ball in the 80th minute. Torres struck the ball from about 20 yards out and put it in the back of the net past Hendrix keeper Laycee Carpenter for the Mustangs first goal of the season.
Sara Calzada (FR/Arlington, Texas) made three saves for CBC. Torres took two shots, both on goal.
The Mustangs return to the pitch on Saturday at noon in Parkville, Mo., for their American Midwest Conference Opener against Park University.
