Parkville, Mo. (Sept. 16, 2017) – Central Baptist College men's soccer opened their American Midwest Conference slate today with a visit to Park University. The Mustangs (0-6, 0-1 AMC) trailed 1-0 at halftime, but responded, tying the game early in the second half before Park (5-1, 2-0 AMC) scored three in the second half to take the match, 4-1.
"The men were very disciplined the entire game," said head coach Taylor Carnahan. "After the rain delay, we came out strong and were able to put away an equalizer. After we gave up the second goal, we had to change up a few things and this caused us to be stretched in certain areas. Park did a great job of executing in those areas to put away the remaining goals."
Park took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute of the game and would maintain that lead into halftime. A rain delay caused an extended half time and after the delay, CBC came out fighting early in the second half, putting a barrage of shots toward the Park goal until Thomas Milner (SR/Derby, England ) knotted the game at one apiece in the 64th minute on an assist from Oscar Marquez (SR/Perris, Calif.). Park responded later in the half with three more goals to bring the margin to its final total.
Bryce Deaton (SR/Bathurst, Austrailia) had two saves for the Mustangs. Milner attempted three shots, all on goal, while Jerry Valdez (SR/Berryville, Ark.) and Theron Durham (SO/Sacramento, Calif.) also made attempts on goal.
Next up for the Mustangs is a trip to Williams Baptist on Tuesday night. Kickoff for the AMC match is set for 4 p.m.
