Columbia, Mo. (Sept. 30, 2017) – Searching for their first win, Central Baptist College women's soccer took the field this morning for the American Midwest Conference game of the week with Stephens College. Neither team could muster much offensively as the Stars (4-5-2, 2-3-1 AMC) drew with the Mustangs (0-10-1, 0-4-1 AMC), 0-0 in double overtime.
"It was a defensive effort on the day, which is a fantastic thing with this group," said head coach Chris Murphy. "We have now gone the last 155 minutes without conceding a goal. We also produced a lot of attack. We are excited to be working on more attacking themes in training so that we are able to convert more of our opportunities. On the day, they put in a phenomenal effort and we are excited to have taken one point from the match to continue making progress moving forward as a team."
Sabrina Torres (SR/LaVerne, Calif.), Kady Johnson (SO/Greenbrier, Ark.) and Brooke Scott (SO/Conway, Ark.) were all able to send opportunities toward the Stephens net, which were all turned away by Stephens' keeper. Sara Calzada (FR/Arlington, Texas) made five saves in the match, including a possible match ending goal in the second overtime.
The Mustangs are off until next Saturday, Oct. 7, when they will face AMC foe Lindenwood-Belleville. Kickoff for the match at Centennial Soccer Park is set for 1 p.m.
