2022-23 Winter Sports Wrap Up

            Conway, Ark. – The 2022-23 winter sports season concluded this past Friday for the Central Baptist College indoor track & field, wrestling, men's basketball and women's basketball teams. The season began with men's basketball on Oct. 29 with a game against Louisiana Christian and ended on March 3 with Darron Harvey competing in wrestling nationals.

            Indoor Track & Field wrapped up their season on Feb. 18 at the American Midwest Conference Championship meet in Elsah, Ill. Ally Swaim secured all-conference in two events, successfully defending her title in the 60-meter hurdles and also earning all-conference honors in the 60-meter dash where she placed third with a time of 8.23.

            Wrestling placed second amongst AMC schools at this season's combined AMC/SAC Championship on Feb. 18 in Fort Worth, Texas. Harvey won the championship at 285 pounds to qualify for nationals. He was also named the AMC Newcomer of the Year and earned all-conference honors at heavyweight. Joining Harvey in earning all-conference honors were David Corretjer, who was selected as Freshman of the Year and all-conference at 125 pounds, Alejandro Mas, who earned all-conference honors at 149 pounds and Christian Richer, who was all-conference at 165 pounds. Additionally, Richer, Corretjer and Brian Mas were named to the AMC's Academic All-Conference team.

            Women's basketball finished 11-14 and 6-14 in the AMC, failing to qualify for the AMC tournament for the first time in four years. Caroline Citty and Diana Rivera earned honorable mention all-conference honors from the AMC. Citty, Rivera, Lydia York, Manuela Cruz, Emma Bates, Rhys Anderson, Olivia Lambrigtsen, Maele Van Hourtert and Janell Light were all named to the AMC's All-Academic Team.

            Men's basketball finished 21-10 overall and 11-5 in the AMC. They played for the AMC championship, losing to Columbia, 62-53, in the title game. It was their fourth appearance in the AMC finals and they have an AMC leading six straight trips to the semifinals. Brevin Brimble and Gabe Johnson earned second-team All-Conference honors, Braylon Steen earned third-team recognition, James Moore earned a nod to the honorable mention and all-defensive teams and Devin Foster was named to the All-Freshman team. Additionally, Bryan Maxey, Blake Bradshaw and Jarvis Leigh earned All-Academic team honors.
