Conway, Ark. – Looking for their first win of the season, Central Baptist College baseball played their home opener this afternoon at Burns Park in North Little Rock against Champion Christian. CBC (2-3) pounded out 29 runs in the two games and swept the doubleheader, beating Champion Christian (0-2) by scores of 17-0 and 12-2.

Andrew Killough and Garon Johnson were the starters and both were dominant. CBC set a single game stolen bases record in game one, swiping 14 bases, including four from Jay French.

GAME ONE – CBC 17, CCC 0 (SEVEN INNINGS)

The offense came out hot in game one, scoring seven in each of the first two innings and three in the third. The first two runs came home on back-to-back steals of home plate, one by French and the other by Steven Stewart. The first RBI of the game came off the bat of Ty Decker, who doubled home two to make it 4-0. A two-run triple by Luke McBride followed by an error made it 7-0 after one. Another error, a Decker double, a McBride single, a sac fly from French and a two-run double by Wille Baez made it 14-0 after two. In the third inning, Dominick McBride drew a bases loaded walk to make it 15-0, which was followed by a steal of home by Gabe Walker and a wild pitch which chased home Benito Martinez. Killough went five, earning the win walking four while striking out seven and not giving up a hit. Austin LeJeune pitched a perfect sixth with a strikeout and Fernando Escapita finished the game allowing a hit and nothing else in the seventh with one K.

GAME TWO – CBC 12, CHAMPION 2 (SEVEN INNINGS)

Game two started much like game one, with CBC scoring quickly and never stopping. The Mustangs scored three in the first, one in the second, six in the fifth and two in the sixth to cap off the sweep. Jay French homered, doubled and drove in three, Ruben Hernandez doubled and had two RBIs while Austin Teal and Ty Decker also drove in runs with extra base hits. CBC only stole eight bases in game two, six off what they had in game one. Johnson got the win, going five innings and allowing an unearned run on two hits with a walk and seven Ks. Gram Middleton pitched a scoreless sixth, allowing a hit and striking out two while Escapita finished off game two as well, allowing a run and a hit with a walk and a strikeout.
