#MustangsWin! CBC Sweeps Doubleheader From Baptist Bible
Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director
Conway, Ark. – Playing at Victory Field on the Conway Christian School campus for the first time this season, Central Baptist College baseball hosted the Patriots of Baptist Bible College this afternoon in a doubleheader. CBC (10-9) swept the two games over BBC (2-23), winning 14-3 in game one and 4-0 in a shortened game two due to snow.
Head Coach Dr. Aaron Brister made history with his 400th career victory in game two. Brister needs one more win this season to hit 250 as the head coach of CBC.
GAME ONE – CBC 14, BBC 3
Neither team scored in the first inning and CBC finally broke through in the bottom of the second when Ruben Hernandez scored on a wild pitch to make it 1-0. The Mustangs extended the lead to 4-0 in the third courtesy of Austin Teal's third home run of the season to lead off the inning, Wille Baez's bases loaded single and a bases loaded walk to Hernandez. Six more runs would cross the plate in the fourth to make it 7-0 including Jay French's steal of home after an RBI on a fielder's choice and Logan Easterling's single. Graham Dykes' first home run of the season, a three run-shot, made it 10-0 later in the inning and provided plenty of cushion for starting pitcher Garon Johnson, who earned the win, going six innings and allowing just three runs (two earned) on four hits while striking out seven and walking one. Following the Patriots scoring three in the six, CBC added four in the bottom half on a two-run single by Gabe Walker, a single from French and a single from Gage Harris. Cole Edwards pitched the seventh for CBC and surrendered a hit, but faced the minimum.
GAME TWO – CBC 4, BBC 0 (FIVE INNINGS)
French would start the scoring in game two with a leadoff home run to make it 1-0 in the first. That was enough for starter Andrew Killough, who threw a complete-game two hit shutout with a walk and eight Ks. A Luke McBride single and an error brought home two in the second to make it 3-0 and Dykes' second home run of the day, a solo shot in the fourth, brought the score final before snow moved in and the game was officially completed with CBC ahead after 4.5 innings.
