Conway, Ark. – Coming off a hard fought win on Thursday night in their American Midwest Conference opener, #11 Central Baptist College men's basketball hosted the Eutectics of the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis this afternoon at A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. #11 CBC (7-1, 2-0 AMC) trailed by five early, but led at halftime and led by 22 late in the second half before winning 89-73 over UHSP (5-2, 0-2 AMC).
Hykeem Hancock led the way with 25 points off the bench while Jonas Carlisle also had double figures with 14 and Wade Williams chipped in with 13. CBC shot 51 percent from the floor in the game and held UHSP to 44 percent from the floor and 21 percent from three.
GAME FLOW
The Mustangs got off to a slow start and trailed 11-6 5:37 into the contest. A Keryn Collins jumper with 13:45 left cut the deficit to three and triggered a 6-0 run to give CBC their first lead of the game at 14-11 with 11:46 left in the half. UHSP would trim the lead to one 13 seconds later before another 5-0 run by CBC stretched the lead to six and it would be 41-29 at the break.
The lead stretched to 16 early in the second half and it stayed in double figures until the 8:03 mark left in the game, when the Mustangs saw their lead cut to nine. A layup by Collins 21 seconds later pushed the lead back to 11 before the teams traded baskets, giving CBC a 68-57 lead with 7:05 left. That was as close as the Eutectics would get as the lead ballooned to 22 before finally settling at 16 for the final.
MUSTANG NOTES
- CBC is now 4-0 at home this season and have won 23 straight inside Reddin Fieldhouse
