#MustangsWin! #20 CBC Remains Tied For First In AMC With Season Sweep of Mission!

            Springfield, Mo. – Following a strange happening in pregame warmups, #20 Central Baptist College men's basketball took on the Patriots of Mission University tonight in an American Midwest Conference clash at the AG Financial Center on the campus of Evangel University. #20 CBC (19-4, 12-1 AMC) overcame the venue change following a broken rim at the original location to win 89-79 over MU (6-13, 4-8 AMC).

            Sage Borbon led five Mustangs in double figures scoring. CBC was hot all night, shooting 51 percent from the field and winning despite getting outrebounded by five.

GAME FLOW

            CBC and Mission traded the lead three times in the first 3:42 of play before a layup by Jonas Carlisle made it 14-13. Two more ties would follow later in the half before the Mustangs turned up the offense, closing on a 40-27 run to take a 54-44 lead into the break.

            The second half saw CBC put the pedal down as they opened on an 18-9 run over the first 9:05 of the half to lead 72-53 with 10:55 to go. The Mustangs held off a late push from MU to cut the lead to six and closed the game at the free throw line and with a dunk to finish the season sweep and stay tied atop the conference.

MUSTANG NOTES

• Borbon finished with 21 points and crossed the 900-point mark in a Mustang uniform
• Carlisle finished with 18 and a team-high eight rebounds
• Savaughn Smith finished with a career-high 13 points
• Gabe Johnson chipped in with 12
• Wade Williams added 11
• Borbon also had four assists and moved into a tie with Jalyn McBride for eighth all-time
• CBC improved to 17-2 all-time against Mission, including the last nine in a row
• The Mustangs are 17-2 when leading at halftime this season
• CBC scored 54 first half points, the eighth time they have scored 50+ in a half this season and second time against Mission

            The Mustangs return home on Saturday for a visit from Harris-Stowe State. Tipoff for the men's game will be 25 minutes following the conclusion of women's senior day.
