BACK-TO-BACK! CBC BEATS COLUMBIA TO CLINCH AT A SHARE OF THE AMC REGULAR SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON!

Conway, Ark. – Playing their final regular season game at home, #18 Central Baptist College men's basketball hosted the Columbia Cougars tonight looking to clinch at least a share of their second straight American Midwest Conference regular season title. #18 CBC (24-4, 17-1 AMC) accomplished their goal, racing to a 19-point halftime lead before sailing to a 97-76 win over CC (20-7, 13-4 AMC) to clinch at least a share of the AMC regular season crown, pending the result of the William Woods-Mission University contest on Saturday.
Wade Williams led five Mustangs in double figures scoring with 23 points while Jonas Carlisle and Sage Borbon both added 16, Gabe Johnson contributed 14 and Savaughn Smith finished with 11. CBC shot 54 percent from the field and canned 12 threes and forced Columbia into 17 turnovers which they converted into 30 points.
GAME FLOW
The Cougars scored the first basket of the game, 1:05 into the contest before CBC went on a 9-0 run from there, never trailing again. The lead would get to as many as 24 with 15:11 to play before settling at its final margin.
MUSTANG NOTES
- Borbon's 16 points helped him become the seventh Mustang ever to reach 1,000 in a CBC uniform
- Carlisle grabbed eight rebounds to go with his 16 point, becoming the ninth player ever to reach 400 career rebounds
- Williams barely missed a double-double, grabbing nine boards
- Johnson had eight assists to go with his 14 points
- Carlisle's six steals put him into 10th place on that list all-time
- The Mustangs made 12 threes for the second time against Columbia this season and the fourth time overall
- CBC beat Columbia for the 11th time in 23 meetings and the fourth time consecutively
- CBC is now 22-2 when leading at halftime this season
- CBC passed 900 made field goals for the fourth time in a season
- The Mustangs scored 54 points in the first half, the fifth time scoring 54-or-more in a half
UP NEXT
CBC will be a 1-or-2 seed in next week's American Midwest Conference tournament, which they will not find out until after Saturday's WWU/MU contest. CBC will tipoff Thursday's AMC quarterfinal at 7 p.m. at Reddin Fieldhouse with a still yet unknown opponent.
