#MustangsWin! CBC Uses Hot Shooting To Sweep Harris-Stowe!

St. Louis, Mo. – Looking to come away with back-to-back road American Midwest Conference victories, Central Baptist College men's basketball took on Harris-Stowe State this afternoon at the Emerson Performance Center. CBC (8-13, 5-4 AMC) trailed by nine early, but led by eight at halftime and shot 54 percent from the field for a 86-77 win over Harris-Stowe (4-16, 1-8 AMC), sweeping the Hornets this season.
All five starters finished in double figures scoring, led by Caleb Knight, who had 21 points. Dalton Alexander III had 19, Tyler Johnson chipped in with his first career double-double of 13 points and 10 rebounds while both Derek Magwood and MacArthur Reed, Jr. had 11 points. The Mustangs were plus three on the glass and plus nine at the free throw line.
GAME FLOW
CBC got off to a slow start, trailing 15-6 inside the first 6:48. The Mustangs followed that with an 8-0 run and trailed 15-14 with 11:47 left in the half. Following a Hornet three on the ensuing possession, The Mustangs ran off four baskets to one for HSSU and CBC took a 22-20 lead on a layup by Roko Kegalj with 9:17 left in the half. The lead would trade hands twice over the next 2:45 before a Magwood free throw tied the game at 27 with 6:32 left. A layup by Knight with 5:14 left in the first half gave CBC a 29-27 lead and sparked an 8-0 run over the next 2:09 that put the Mustangs in the driver's seat for the remainder of the game. CBC would led 43-35 at the break and never allowed the Hornets to get closer than four for the remainder of the contest.
MUSTANG NOTES
- CBC is now 18-8 all-time against the Hornets and have won the last eight meetings
- The Mustangs improved to 6-1 when leading at the half this season
- CBC is 2-1 this season when Knight is the leading scorer, with both wins coming over Harris-Stowe
- Johnson's double-digit rebounding effort was just the third such contest for the Mustangs this season
