Hannibal, Mo. – Opening play in the American Midwest Conference Tournament this afternoon, Central Baptist College men's soccer took on Hannibal-LaGrange in the quarterfinals at Blackwell Field. CBC (5-9-2) tied the Trojans (5-9-4) 1-1 but were eliminated from the AMC Tournament in a shootout, 3-2.
The match was tied at halftime 0-0 before HLG took the lead on a 60th minute penalty kick. The Mustangs would trail until the 79th minute when a beautiful bicycle kick by Jared Nunes tied the match at one. Neither team could put a golden goal into the net in either overtime and the match headed to a penalty shootout for the first time in Mustangs' history. In the shootout, Nigel Agboola and Hugo Chacon both stepped up and made theirs before Jared Nunes had his shot saved, Billy Murray soared his over the goal and, trailing 3-2, Jack McNamara's shot was also saved to end CBC's season in the quarterfinals for the fourth straight season despite a 10-save effort from Jasper Gadellaa.
