McKenzie, Tenn. – On the road for the third straight weekend, Central Baptist College softball opened their trip to Tennessee today with a doubleheader against Bethel University. CBC (3-7) split with BU (3-3) dropping game one 12-9 before winning game two 7-2.
GAME ONE – BETHEL 12, CBC 9
The Wildcats took a 3-0 lead in the first inning before CBC responded with six in the second to take a 6-3 lead. Melanie Phillips blasted her first home run to start the scoring and Taviah Bradley made it 3-2 with a double. A wild pitch tied the score at three before Kinley Johnson doubled home two runs and Eden East was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring home the final run of the inning. Bethel cut it to 6-4 in their half of the second before CBC scored three in the third all thanks to errors, giving them a 9-4 lead after four. Bethel would then score two in the fourth, three in the fifth and three in the sixth to take game one.
GAME TWO – CBC 7, BETHEL 2
Both teams scored twice in the first inning, with CBC's runs coming on a two-run single by East. Bradley would bring home the first of three runs in the second on a single, which was followed by a Kinley Johnson single and a wild pitch to make it 5-2 after two. CBC scored two more in the seventh on a single by Kassidy Oberan and a bases loaded walk issued to Taylyn Shuffield. Freshman starter Emma Fenley went the distance in the circle, allowing two unearned runs on three hits with four strikeouts.
