CBC Drops Tough Contest To Harris-Stowe

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

St. Louis, Mo. – Looking to snap their recent losing skid, Central Baptist College women's basketball was on the court today at the Emerson Performance Center for an American Midwest Conference game against the Hornets of Harris-Stowe State. CBC (7-8, 2-8 AMC) led by three at halftime but couldn't muster much in the second half and fell 50-48 to HSSU (3-12, 2-8 AMC).

Olivia Lambrigtsen led CBC with 16 points and posted her first career double-double with a team best 11 rebounds. Caroline Citty also finished in double figures scoring with 12. CBC outrebounded HSSU 36-27 but committed 23 turnovers compared to forcing just 15.

GAME FLOW

The Lady Mustang raced out to a 9-2 lead inside the first 4:02 before HSSU made a three to make it 9-5. A three from Rhys Anderson at the 5:13 mark made it 12-5 and layups from Diana Rivera and Lambrigtsen on back-to-back possessions made it 16-9 with 3:10 left in the quarter and CBC would lead 16-14 after one. Neither team scored for the first 1:03 of the second quarter before HSSU tied the game at 16. On the ensuing CBC possession, Citty would hit a three to make it 19-16 and the Lady Mustangs would lead by as many as eight at one point in the quarter before carrying a 29-26 lead into halftime.

HSSU cut it to 29-28 early in the second half before a pair of Lambrigtsen free throws (she made 6-7), pushed the lead back to three. Following another basket by the Hornets to make it 31-30, Anderson canned her second triple of the game to stretch the lead back to four at 34-30. More free throws would stretch the lead to seven with 3:02 left in the third before Stowe closed on a 6-0 run and CBC led 37-36 after three quarters. A Citty made jumper to open the fourth pushed the lead to 39-36 before a pair of free throws by the Hornets made it 39-38. The first deficit of the contest for the Lady Mustangs came at the 7:00 mark when HSSU hit a pair of free throws to make it 42-41. A three by the Hornets stretched the deficit to four before a Lambrigtsen layup made it 45-43 with 5:18 left to play. After seeing the deficit balloon to five on two separate occasions, Kristan Hargrove buried a three with nine seconds left to make it 50-48 in favor of the home team. An offensive foul with eight seconds left gave CBC one last shot to either tie or win, but a turnover happened, and the Lady Mustangs failed to get an attempt.
