Lady Mustangs Drop Back-And-Forth Contest to Scots

Erik Holth, CBC Sports Information Director

Conway, Ark. – Looking to get one step closer to making the American Midwest Conference tournament for the fourth straight season, Central Baptist College women's basketball took on the Scots of Lyon College in front of a raucous crowd inside A.R. Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (9-13, 4-13 AMC) led at halftime and at the end of three, but couldn't hold Lyon (9-13, 8-10 AMC) in the fourth quarter, falling 65-62.

Caroline Citty was the lone Lady Mustang in double figures with a career-high 24 points while Olivia Lambrigtsen grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. CBC was plus seven on the glass, but couldn't contain Lyon's attack in the paint, getting outscored 38-22 in the painted area.

GAME FLOW

The game featured nine ties and five lead changes, with Lyon racing out to a 14-5 lead inside the first seven minutes of the game. CBC would fight back, however, closing the first quarter on a 12-3 run to tie the score at 17 at the end of one. Most of the ties and lead changes came in the second quarter, when neither team had a lead larger than two. A jumper from Rhys Anderson with seven seconds left in the quarter gave CBC a 29-28 lead at the break.

In the third quarter, Emma Bates stretched the lead to three, and it would get no larger than four as the Lady Mustangs clung to a 45-43 lead at the end of three quarters. Following a made free throw to cut the lead to one, Diana Rivera canned her only three of the night to make it 48-44 CBC. Lyon would score on their next two possessions to tie the game at 48 before Citty made a layup to put the Lady Mustangs back in front 50-48. After Lyon tied the game again, Bates cashed in a three to put CBC up 53-50, but Lyon cut it to one with a pair of free throws. A layup by the Scots put CBC down by one, 54-53, with 4:02 left and the Lady Mustangs would never get closer than three for the rest of the contest.
