#MustangsWin! CBC Completes Season Sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange!

            Hannibal, Mo. – Playing on the road for the final time in the regular season, Central Baptist College women's basketball took on the Hannibal-LaGrange University Trojans today in an American Midwest Conference clash inside the Mabee Sports Complex. CBC (10-14, 8-12 AMC) led by 16 at halftime and finished the game well, beating HLGU (3-23, 0-20 AMC) 73-63.

            Aliya Grotjohn, Raigan Head and Tamara Christmas all finished in double figures scoring for the Lady Mustangs. CBC held HLGU to just three-of-16 from the three-point arc and outrebounded the Trojans 38-30.

GAME FLOW

            Addison Hudspeth and Grotjohn hit threes on back-to-back possessions to give CBC a quick 6-2 lead. The Lady Mustangs saw the lead dwindle to five, but held on to lead 26-18 after a quarter. CBC made seven of their 12 attempts in the second quarter, most of which came in the post, as Christmas hit all of her four attempts and Molly Smith hit her only shot attempt and canned two free throws as the Lady Mustangs took a 45-29 lead into halftime.

            HLGU tried to claw back in the third quarter, but CBC maintained an eight point cushion headed to the fourth. In the final stanza, the Lady Mustangs locked down defensively, holding HLGU to just 11 points on four-of-16 from the field.

MUSTANG NOTES

  • Grotjohn had 18 points on seven-of-10 from the field and three-of-four from deep
  • Head added 15 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season
  • Christmas added 12 points
  • Rhys Anderson led the way with six assists
  • CBC is now 17-6 all-time against HLGU and have won 14 straight meetings
  • The Lady Mustangs improved to 7-2 when leading at halftime this season
  • CBC hit 10 threes today and now sit seven off the all-time single-season record of 200 set in 2019-20
  • CBC's 26 first quarter points marked the fourth time this season that they have scored 25-plus in a quarter

            CBC is home for their final two games of the regular season, beginning on Thursday night with a visit from the Columbia Cougars. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
