#MustangsWin! CBC Captures First Win of the Season Over Tougaloo!

Conway, Ark. – Looking to end the 2025 Mustang Invitational on a high note, Central Baptist College volleyball hosted the Tougaloo Bulldogs today at Reddin Fieldhouse. CBC (1-6) took win number one in four sets, beating TC (0-4) by scores of 25-8, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-22.
Aubree Ruggles and Avary Smith both finished with double figures in kills, with Ruggles notching 12 while hitting .320 and Smith posting 11 while hitting .409. Madeline Freeman led in assists with 22 and Kate Scroggins paced CBC in digs with 14. Offensively, CBC had 56 kills and hit .212 while also collecting 10 service aces. Defensively, the Mustangs had six blocks and held TC to 32 kills and an .083 hitting percentage.
GAME FLOW
CBC never trailed in set one and got out to a 15-8 lead before closing out the set with 10 points in a row. The Mustangs won the first four points of set two and led by as many as 10 points before winning the set by eight. CBC ran off four straight points to start set three but allowed the Bulldogs to hang around and led by three late before Tougaloo ran off four straight points to win and send the match to a fourth set. In set four, CBC got little separation until the 35th game, when Lakyn Johnson put down a kill to help CBC stretch their lead to six before closing it out.

The Mustangs head to Magnolia on Tuesday night for a clash with the Southern Arkansas Muleriders. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
