#MustangsWin! CBC Sweeps Arkansas Baptist In Home Opener

                North Little Rock, Ark. – Playing at DeSalvo Memorial Stadium for the first time this season, Central Baptist College baseball hosted the Arkansas Baptist College Buffaloes in a doubleheader this afternoon. CBC (5-3) swept the doubleheader, taking game one 19-4 before winning game two 9-1 over ABC (0-2).

GAME ONE – CBC 19, ARKANSAS BAPTIST 4

                Following a two-run top of the first for the Buffaloes, the Mustang offense exploded for 14 runs in the bottom half to take a 14-2 lead after one inning. A pair of bases loaded walks brought home the first two runs followed by an error, another bases loaded walk, a single by Jaxon Kirkhuff that scored three, a George Astacio single, another bases loaded walk, a wild pitch, a two-run single by Josh Lumsden, another single by Kirkhuff and a single by Cade Collins. A double by Aaron Prince made it 15-2 in the second and ABC made it 15-3 in the third. CBC tacked on their final four runs in the sixth on an error, a two-run single by Cameron Harden and a single by Devin Miller. ABC got a run in the seventh, but Trey Watson locked down the save for the Mustangs. Jamin Smith earned the victory, throwing four innings and scattering seven hits and three earned runs with five strikeouts. Watson threw the final three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out five.

GAME TWO – CBC 10, ARKANSAS BAPTIST 1

                Freshman starting pitcher Aiden Jones was the story of game two. Jones threw a complete game one-hitter, allowing just one unearned run while striking out eight. Seven of his strikeouts were in a row, as struck out the side in both the fifth and sixth innings while striking out the first batter of the seventh as well. ABC scored first in the second on a single that got past the left fielder and rolled to the fence. CBC would answer immediately in the bottom half, scoring six runs on a two-run single by Preston White, with a third run scoring on an error, an RBI groundout by Ryan Dauphinee and a two-run double by Brayden Mayencourt. Dauphinee would plate two more with a double in the third inning and CBC's final two runs were both driven by Josh Lumsden on a single in the fourth and a groundout in the sixth.

UP NEXT

                Baseball has adjusted their schedule with rain in Saturday's forecast. CBC will now play Wiley University in their next doubleheader which is scheduled for Thursday at 1 p.m. at Burns Park.
