Conway, Ark. – Playing an American Midwest Conference opponent at home for the first time this season, Central Baptist College baseball hosted the Williams Baptist Eagles at Bear Stadium in a doubleheader this afternoon. CBC (18-12, 4-1 AMC) swept the doubleheader, beating WBU (12-12, 3-2 AMC) by scores of 9-3 and 9-2.
GAME ONE – CBC 9, WBU 3
Preston White started the scoring for CBC in the third with his fourth home run of the season to make it 1-0 and Garrett Fitts made it 2-0 later in the inning with a single. The Mustangs would put the game away in the fourth inning, scoring six times on a bases loaded walk to White, a single by Ryan Dauphinee, a two-run double by Brayden Mayencourt and a two-run single by Josh Lumsden to make it 8-0 after four. The Eagles scored all three of their runs in the sixth before a Cesar Franco single plated the final run in the bottom half. Aiden Jones picked up his fourth win, allowing eight hits and three earned runs in five-and-one-third innings with one strikeout. Jamin Smith finished the game, allowing one hit and striking out two over the final one-and-two-thirds.
GAME TWO – CBC 9, WBU 2
The Eagles got the lead early in game two before an RBI single by Fitts tied the game at one in the first inning. WBU retook the lead in the third and the deficit stayed 2-1 for the Mustangs until the fifth. In that half inning, a two-run double by Dauphinee gave CBC their first lead at 3-2 before Mayencourt added some insurance with a single to make it 4-2. Two more runs crossed the plate in the sixth, first on a bunt by Danilo Taborda and the second on a double by White. The final three runs scored in the seventh on a double steal by George Astacio and Malik Simpson, a single by Franco and a wild pitch. Dylan Parton earned his sixth win of the season, throwing seven innings and allowing eight hits and two runs with one strikeout. Jaxon Kirkhuff threw the final two innings and allowed a hit and struck out three as CBC beat WBU for the seventh time in their last 10 meetings.
