Hannibal, Mo. – Continuing their five-game road trip to Missouri, Central Baptist College baseball took on the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans today in an American Midwest Conference doubleheader at Nichols Field. CBC (21-14, 6-2 AMC) swept the double dip from HLGU (6-16, 1-7 AMC), taking game one 3-2 before tying three individual and team records in a 17-5 win in game two.
GAME ONE – CBC 3, HLG 2
Hannibal led 2-0 after three innings in game one. CBC finally broke through in the fourth inning with an RBI single by George Astacio to cut the deficit to 2-1. A passed ball in the fifth tied the game at two and it stayed that way until the seventh when Ryan Dauphinee doubled in Josh Lumsden to give CBC the lead. Aiden Jones would put down the side in order to secure the win, his fifth of the season. Jones threw a complete game, allowing two runs on eight hits with a strikeout while coaxing three double plays in crucial spots.
GAME TWO – CBC 17, HLG 5 (SEVEN INNINGS)
After a scoreless first inning, the Mustangs actually cracked the scoreboard first in game two with a sac fly by Aaron Prince to make it 1-0. CBC tacked on three more runs in the third on a sac fly by Astacio and a two-run double by Cesar Franco to make it 4-0. A Ryan Dauphinee single, one of his single-game record tying six hits, made it 6-0 in the fourth and Dauphinee would later on a steal and an error to make it 7-0 before a double by Astacio made the score 8-0 after four innings. The Mustangs put a three spot on the board in the fifth on a double by Brayden Mayencourt, a triple by Garrett Fitts and the second sac fly of the game by Astacio to make it 11-0 after five. CBC made it 14-0 in the sixth on a fielder's choice off the bat of Mayencourt, an RBI groundout by Fitts and a single by Astacio. Hannibal's first three runs came in the bottom of the sixth before CBC scored their final three runs in the top of the seventh on Aaron Prince's fifth home run of the season and a two-run double by Fitts. HLG scored two in the bottom of the seventh, but the run-rule ended the contest early.
